Short Domains Continue to Dominate - Week's Top 5 Sales Come in at 4 Characters or Less

Short domains have always appealed to domain buyers but their popularity has never been higher than it has been over the past year. That trend continued this week with the top five sales and 11 of 20 entries on our latest all extension Top 20 Sales Chart coming in at four characters or less

A representative from the always in demand 3-letter .com group - DCR.com - set the pace with a $42,000 sale at Sedo. One of the year's ten biggest ccTLD sales, single letter X.de, was right behind at $40,000, followed by another country code domain, Wine.mx at $25,001. Sedo posted the latter two sales as well.

The same old (but pleasant) song continued with a pair of four-digit numeric domains - GGRG.com's $25,000 sale of #4 7076.com and Sedo's sale of #5 (tie) 1104.com at $15,200. The week's top sale of a name longer than four characters earned a share of that fifth position with SnapNames selling InnoChina.com for $15,200.

While the .coms enjoyed their usual dominance, taking 13 of 20 chart entries, the ccTLDs also had a very strong week with six names on the elite list, including five of the top ten. In addition to the two already mentioned, #7 Vertrag.de ($12,840 at Sedo), #9 (tie) Pose.co ($10,000 at Sedo) and #9 (tie) Crave.io ($10,000 at Park.io) also landed on the upper half of the Big Board.

The non .com gTLDs were limited to one chart entry - Sedo's sale of #15 JRR.org at $9,888

Sedo easily won the race among venues piling up 15 of the 20 chart entries. Along with GGRG, SnapNames and Park.io, TVAds.com also earned chart honors with #17 CigarOfTheMonthClub.com at $8,500

Country Codes

The ccTLDs were led by the six sales you saw on the all extension leader board above with five of those reaching five figures. X.de led the way with that $40,000 sale at Sedo - one that ranks as the 9th biggest country code sale reported so far this year.

The biggest sale in this category that you haven't seen yet is #7 on this week's Country Code Top 20 Sales Chart. That is FCV.in, an Indian domain that Sedo sold for $7,000. They rounded out the top ten with Akademiasmaku.pl and Selexium.fr at $6,955 apiece and an IDN, #10 Feuerlöscher.de, at $6,206. Sedo went on to sweep 19 of the 20 chart entries.

Germanys .de easily won the extension race with seven chart entries. No other TLDs has more than two. Here is how the country code leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, Nov. 8:

Non .com gTLDs (.net, .org, .biz, .info & others, including new gTLDs)

The Non .Com gTLDs didn't have any five-figure sales reported this week but the top sale - JRR.org - just missed, going for $9,888 at Sedo. Sedo wound up sweeping all 20 positions on our latest weekly Non .Com gTLD Top 20 Sales Chart. We have seen them do that before in the ccTLD category (one they traditionally dominate) but it's a first for this category.

They were aided by 13 three-letter .net sales. While Bigan.net took the #2 spot at $4,500, the next seven in a row were all 3-letter .nets, led by #3 WRJ.net at $4,140.

With all of those 3-letter .net sales, the .nets obviously scored an easy win in the extension race, taking 15 of the 20 entries. The remaining five spots all went to .orgs. Here's how all of the Non .Com gTLD leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, Nov. 8:
