Today
in The
Lowdown: VeriSign has released their latest quarterly
Domain Name Industry Brief covering the 3rd quarter of 2025. This update showed the total number of domain registrations across all TLDs worldwide ended the most recent quarter at
378.5 million after leaping 16 million domains above the same
point last year. .coms, ccTLDs and new gTLDs all contributed to the rise.
Also
inside: In our last domain sales report we told you about
an unprecedented wave of five and six-figure domain sales that flooded our
charts. Just two weeks later, the landscape looks completely different with only
one publicly reported six-figure sale on our latest all extension Top
20 Sales Chart. Does that mean the sky has suddenly fallen? No, it
means holiday season is here!

Back
to the Future: NamesCon Global 2025 Was a Historic Homecoming Party for Many and
a Forward-Thinking Domain Forum For All
|
|
In 2004, a small group of visionary people came together
in South Florida, most meeting in person for the first time, for the world's first major domain conference. They shared a belief that meaningful domain names had an inherent value that would multiply dramatically in the years
ahead - and they were right. From those humble beginnings 21 years ago, we have grown into a
multi-billion dollar industry. We also continue to meet in person, now
with multiple events around the world every year. The largest of those for domain investors, developers and their service providers is
NamesCon Global, so it was fitting to see their show bring the community
back to where it all began. Better yet, NamesCon combined that history with a
candid look at where we are today and the exciting possibilities still ahead of
us. Full

At
the June 2024 NamesCon Global conference I
saw a huge banner promoting a new
company, OpusDNS, that didn't launch
until 16 months later (October 1,
2025). Soon after seeing the banner I
bumped into Robbie Birkner, one of
the industry's ultimate pros who has been in
the business for 25 years. When I asked the
Hexonet Co-Founder what he was working on
now he pointed up to the OpusDNS banner.
I said, "That's you?!" He
confirmed it was indeed and that he was
teaming up with another revered industry
pioneer, Hakan Ali, who co-founded
InterNetX in 1998 to - in Hakan's
own words - "reimagine domain
management from the ground up." That's
a tall order but with those two involved, my
first thought was "if they can't do it,
nobody can." Full
