As we head into the
second quarter of the new year, the domain aftermarket is
continuing to produce a steady stream of solid sales.
The parade continues to be led by impressive performers from
the .com and .ai camps. IZ.com set the
pace on our latest bi-weekly all-extension Top 20 Sales
Chart after selling for $517,500 in a Namecheap
auction. It has been the popular registrar's own domain since
they acquired in 2021 for $625,000. So, they took a
loss in putting it on the block to see where it would go, but
it's one they can easily afford. The sale also reiterated the
allure of 2-letter .coms as multiple bidders were also willing
to cross the half-million dollar line for a rare chance to own
one.
|

|
Meanwhile,
back at the .ai ranch, business was booming as
evidenced by a pair of six-figure sales that took the next two
spots on the honor roll. Those were a $200,000 sale of Zip.ai
via Afternic
and a $165,000 acquisition of Turbo.ai through
Namecheap. In a related note, we also heard from a
reliable long-time source that Fin.ai was sold for an
astonishing $1 million. The source is a long time,
trustworthy friend but the seller isn't likely to provide the
documentation we would need to chart it due to privacy issues.
|
The .coms got
another boost from a pair of strong two-word domain sales
- DomainMarket
founder Mike Mann's $94,888 sale of #4 DriftDesign.com
and Dynadot's
$69,474 sale of #6 GeneratedAssets.com.
Sandwiched
between those two is the biggest non .com gTLD sale -
#5 Codex.xyz that Swetha.xyz
sold through Afternic for $79,888.
As
for the ccTLDs, .ai has been dominating the category
for a long time but that doesn't mean that it is the only
country code TLD that is producing big returns. In fact, three
different ones all took places on the elite list this time
around the track. Sedo
sold #9 Clau.de for $43,200, as well as #17 Check.co.uk
for $16,125 and #18 (tie) Together.tv for
$15,000. For the record, Sedo sold a boat load of
.coms, putting seven more of those in the Top 20.

The ccTLDs
claimed two of the three biggest sales regardless of category
this time out thanks to those six-figure sales of Zip.ai
and Turbo.ai that you saw in the all extension section
above. This group's eight five-figure sales were also shown
there, so the biggest sale on our latest Country Code Top 20
Sales Chart that you haven't seen yet is #11
BeerShop.de at $8,532 via Sedo.
Sedo went on to sweep
15 of the 20 chart entries. The remaining five spots went to
five different venues. Nameshift.com
nabbed one of those with #17 MEG.at at $5,400. Dynadot
got another with #20 Chief.me at $5,000.
