.AI Obliterates the Competition, Sweeping 15 of 20 Entries on Our Latest Top 20 Domain Sales Chart

In over 20 years of posting domain sales charts we've never seen one that looked like the latest one below. While we have seen a single TLD sweep 15 or more entries on a single Top 20 chart, that TLD was always .com - but not this week. Led by an $85,000 sale of Odyssey.ai reported by Namecheap, .ai domains went on to claim 15 places on our latest bi-weekly all extension Top 20 Sales Chart. Of the remaining positions, two went to other ccTLDs, two went to .xyz (a non .com gTLD) and - also unprecedented - only one went to .com. That was Sedo's $50,000 sale of #2 Qamar.com.

Now, there were some extenuating circumstances. The past two weeks included the four-day Thanksgiving holiday weekend in the U.S.  With most offices closed, it is common for business to slow down in this stretch and we also tend to get info from fewer sources while everyone is enjoying the break. That may have played a role in  none of the usual high end .com sales being made public in this time frame. However,  Namecheap, a .AI powerhouse did release a couple of impressive lists of five-figure .ai sales that filled the void and then some. We may not see anything quite this lopsided again but, regardless of the circumstances, it leaves no doubt that the .ai is getting a stunning level of love from both AI start-ups and investors.

As most of you know by now, .al is a re-purposed ccTLD that represents the Caribbean island of Anguilla (whose government has reaped a windfall from the artificial intelligence boom). The other ccTLDs that earned spots on the new leader board were #7 Lentillas.es (Spanish for "contact lenses"), at $39,900 and #15 Rugs.it (an Italian country code domain) at $30,975, with both of those sales coming through Sedo.

The non .com gTLDs were able to take a couple of bows as well, thanks to a pair of .xyz sales that Afternic completed of behalf of Swetha.xyz. Those were #5 (tie) Operator.xyz at $40,000 and #11 Backpack.xyz at $34,888.

Everything else wound up in the .ai column, including a pair of $45,000 sales - Diviorce.ai and Salt.ai - that tied for #3.
