Year's Biggest Non .Com gTLD Sale to Date and a Top 5 ccTLD Sale Lead Our Latest Chart

Normally this would be an off week for our bi-weekly domain sales report but, as promised last week, we're back this week to bring you up to date on Sedo's sales from the past three weeks, as well as notable ones from other venues that have come in since our previous report. With summer holiday season here, Sedo had notified industry media that their usual weekly sales data releases would not be sent out July 18 and July 25 but the information would be included with the resumption of regular releases August 1. We now have all three weeks in hand including a big ccTLD sale that claimed the #2 spot on our latest all extension Top 20 Sales Chart

It took the year's highest Non .com gTLD sale reported to date to top Sedo's €85,000 ($92,650) sale of Buy.es (.es is Spain's ccTLD). That was a $110,000 sale of BC.xyz that was closed through DAN.com. The domain is under WhoIs privacy but, in addition to sending us documentation of the transaction, the seller noted in a post on their X (Twitter) feed that the buyer was a Hong Kong based AI tech company. This is the second week in a row that the Non .com gTLDs have put up a new #1 name. Last week it was the $100,000 sale of Anxiety.org by Sedo's Senior Broker Dave Evanson. Sedo's Buy.es sale this week ranks high for the year too, having taken over the #4 spot on our YTD Top 100 ccTLD Chart. That is one of three charts you can review our YTD Sales Charts Page where you will also find a Top 100 for all extensions combined and a Top 100 Non .Com gTD list.

The .coms still took the biggest piece of the Top 20 pie, piling up 11 entries on the leader board led by a $67,500 sale of #3 AIWriter.com that Greg Meyers made through DAN.com. The current AI boom has been very good to Greg. He said he had picked up AIWriter.com for $10,000 in 2021. Nice return on investment but he got an even better one back in January when he sold AIGenerator.com for $81,675. He had also purchased that one in 2021, paying just $3,195!

These huge return on investment stories are a big reason domains have attracted so many investors over the years. There is yet another great one on the new chart involving #4 Llama2.com at $30,000. Meta bought the domain through Afternic for a new AI chat product and the seller told me he had just hand registered the domain in February!

There are two other AI related domains on the top half of this week's chart. Sedo sold #5 Localize.ai for $26,500 and #10 Toy.ai for $16,350. .AI is actually a ccTLD (assigned to the British Overseas Territory of Anguilla - an island in the eastern Caribbean). Increasingly frequent .ai sales are helping ccTLDs claim an increasingly large number of chart entries (they have eight this week with .ai, .es, .de, .nl, .sk and .co all taking places). A .us domain, Credit.us at $11,289, was the highest sale reported outside of the Top 20.
