High Traffic Domain Sales Put NameDrive In Fast Lane To DN Journal's Top Ten

by Ron Jackson

NameDrive.com recently joined the crowded field of Pay Per Click parking service providers, but the company just served notice that it plans to have a hand in high dollar domain sales as well. NameDrive makes their debut on DNJournal's weekly Top Ten chart with three entries including #1 VideosGratis.com at $66,204.  The company's CEO, Greg Manriquez, was a Sedo broker before going out on his own. At NameDrive he will continue providing brokerage services in addition to ramping up the new PPC program.

NameDrive wound up taking three of the first six positions on our new list, also scoring with #3 TVShow.com at $43,200 and #6 Walmat.com at $19,000. All three of their domains came with a built-in flow of traffic. VideoGratis.com posts 1,129 with the extension in Overture with Walmat.com in the same neighborhood at 1,113. TVShow.com's Overture number trails at 227 but the name has obvious potential as an entertainment destination.

Sedo.com also posted three Top Ten hits this week, with #4 AAH.com leading the sales parade for them at $25,000. Moniker.com/DomainSystems.com and Enom's Club Drop took the remaining spots on the upper half of the chart. Moniker did it with #2 ByOwnerMLS.com at $50,620 while Club Drop clocked in with #5 JobHotline.com at $19,200.

SnapNames.com had back to back entries on the Big Board with #7 Rihanna.com at $16,254 and #8 LasPalmas.com at $15,363. Every domain on our new list was in five figures and Sedo had two more in that range than finished just off the chart, including still another strong .US food industry domain, WholeFoods.us, at $10,000. That makes four .US food-related domains that have sold at prices ranging from $10,000 to $20,000 in the last three weeks. We'll tell you more about the latest big sale for the American country code extension in our New TLD section a little later on. Right now we want to give you a look at the complete leader board for the week ending Oct. 16:

Keep in mind that these are the highest value sales that have been reported to us in the past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both.

.Com swept the first eight positions on this week's chart before finally yielding to the .net and .co.uk domains from Sedo that anchored our new list. #9 Immobilier.net ("real estate" in French) brought 12,750 ($15,311) while TrainTracker.co.uk pulled into the station with 8,500 ($14,896) on board. In other five-figure transactions, SnapNames sold IndianGirl.com for $10,501 and Sedo banked $10,000 from ZeeTV.com.

The Sedo roster also included CityOfPhoenix.com at $9,000, BlogSport.com at 7,450 ($8,946) and Speicherkarte.com at 4,800 (8,413). Speicherkarte is "memory card" in German. Sedo also connected with Joining.com and Chryso.com at 5,000 ($6,004) each, Jandel.com at $5,000 and TopCars.com at $4,500. Their country code winners included Bookmarks.de at 6,500 ($7,805), Belgian ccTLD Webbel.be at 4,250 ($5,103) and Hacke.de at 2,500 ($3,002).

Afternic.com tuned in $8,333 with TVYourWay.com and added $8,000 for CentralPerk.com. Inver.com returned $5,000, $4,900 floated in on PaperAirplanes.com and Kaas.com commanded $2,500. Afternic also had a trio of domains that drew $2,000 each; PokerGod.com, NewHomesFlorida.com and Ardennes.net

Back at SnapNames, ChipShot.com put $7,101 in the cup, FamilyWebsite.com went for $6,088 and RealEstatePrices.com posted $5,711. NumeroUno.com notched $5,600, AGame.com added $4,655 and TVOffers.com attracted $3,993. HealthFoodSupplements.com swallowed $3,955 and Villaggio.com vaulted to $3,611 while DellFinancialService.com and Chowchilla.com churned up $3,600 each.

PersonalizedRibbons.com provided another $3,401, PhonePsychics.com channeled $3,400 and TheCancerSite.com collected $3,203. ElectronicEquipment.com plugged in $3,049, eCitizen.com cast a $3,000 ballot and Geet.com got $2,921. In other extensions, Empresa.net pulled $2,900, BodyOfChrist.org brought $2,517 and NGI.net fetched $2,400. This table will show you another big group of .com winners from SnapNames this week:

Expresscripts.com (1,231 in Overture with the extension) sold for $4,600 at Enom's Club Drop where ArtyPoker.net raked in $2,600 and OnlineWill.com left $2,200. New TLD Section

.US has pretty much owned the new extension market for the past month. For the 4th week in a row, a five-figure sale puts the American country code on top of our New TLD leader board and once again a food industry domain, WholeFoods.us, did the trick at $10,000. The buyer was Natural Foods Inc., the same Ohio food company that bought Foods.us, GourmetFoods.us and OrganicFoods.us for prices ranging from $10,000 to $20,000 in recent weeks. The Toledo based firm (whose primary website is at BulkFoods.com) has also bought numerous domains at three and four figure prices, including this week's #2 and #3 domains; NaturalFoods.us, acquired in a private sale for 2,500 ($3,002) and Herb.us, purchased through Sedo.com for $2,500.

Overall, .US claimed six of eight positions on our new chart and every domain on the list hit at least four figures. #4 FashionModel.us flashed $2,000 and #5 Onion.us yielded $1,800 to help America's extension sweep the first five spots. .Info and .Biz each had one entry. #6 Ruth.info attracted 1,300 ($1,561) at Sedo and #8 Eyes.biz brought $1,000 at the same venue. Sedo dominated the new extension sales action, sewing up 7 of the 8 chart openings.

Sedo had five other sales just off the chart, including a trio of domains I sold to Natural Foods Inc. We'll run down all of those for you, but first let's take a look at the complete New TLD leader board for the week ending Oct. 16:

#7 GiftBasket.us was another Natural Foods Inc. purchase at $1,450. They also picked up Gumballs.biz ($775), Cajun.us ($775) and Morel.us ($700) from me at Sedo. I sold them two other domains that will be transferred shortly. In other new extension sales at Sedo, XmasGifts.us unwrapped $970 and FBI.info brought in 650 ($780).

Our New TLD Year-To-Date Top 50 chart gets two new members this week with WholeFoods.us settling into an 8th place tie and giving .us 7 of the year's top 10 sales. NaturalFoods.us also joins a club that currently has an entry fee of $2,750. Here are 2005's highest reported new TLD sales through Oct. 16:

As always, we welcome all verifiable sales reports from companies, private sellers or individuals with knowledge of an important sale made through any channel. To contribute information and help make this column better,  just drop a note to [email protected].

We truly appreciate the industry leading companies represented on our charts who share their sales information with us to help everyone in the business get a handle on current domain values. Individuals like Richard Meyer of the American Marketing Corporation also provide invaluable help by sending us data for these sales reports each week.

Every Tuesday we publish the highest reported domain name sales for the previous week. On Monday our contributors send us their sales data for the previous 7 days. We then compile that information and write this report for Tuesday publication to give you the freshest sales report in the industry.

We will close with this standard caution. These are not average selling prices - these are top selling domains. One of the biggest impediments to making sales is pricing domains at unrealistic levels. For most of us, pricing domains at the levels achieved on the Top Ten chart will leave us waiting a long time to make a sale! We hope you will use the information presented here as a measuring stick that will help you price your domains at levels that will put more money in your pocket more often!
