The term may sound
familiar to you since Kreuzfahrten.de (German country code
version) sold earlier this year for a whopping 70,000
($88,853). That one still ranks among the top ten sales on the
year (#9 on our Year-To-Date chart). It took a little
luck for the Swiss domain to reach the summit on our big board. Sedo
actually had a considerably larger $30,000 sale (a one-word .com)
but the parties involved asked that the name not be released.
Another confidential sale worth $14,000 occurred at Moniker.com/DomainSystems.com.
Unnamed domains are not eligible for our chart but Moniker was still
able to claim the runner-up slot thanks to the $13,500 sale
of RebateMail.com. Overall sales were softer than usual this
past week, most likely due to the Memorial Day weekend in the
United States. That is the unofficial start of summer here
and with the kids out of school many families celebrate the occasion
by putting business aside and heading out of town on vacation.
The absence of blockbuster sales doesn't mean there was a
shortage of interesting sales though. Two others cracked five
figures, #3 Dater.com which sold for $10,500 at Pool.com
and 4th ranked Buy.org which went for $10,000 at Sedo.
Another Sedo domain, Halls.com was just $5 short of the 10K
mark, going for $9,995.
Vitamins.info was right there too, fortifying Afternic.com's
sales sheet with a healthy $9,500 sale. That was good
for #6 on the big board as well as the #1 slot on our New TLD
chart. .Info in general enjoyed another great week and for
the third week in a row, every domain on our new extension chart
went for four figures or more. We'll have more on that later, but
right now let's take a look at the top reported sales for the week ending May

Keep in mind that these are the highest
value sales that have been reported in the past week.
This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a
complete list documenting ALL high value domain
sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many
sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers
or both. |
Pool and Sedo each racked up four Top Ten entries this
week (there are actually 11 domains on the board due to 10th place
tie). Throwing FreshMeat.com up for bid attracted a school of
sharks at Pool that did $8,600 worth of damage. That ranked 7th
just ahead of the private sale of StopSign.com for $7,500.
Pool also took the 9th spot and shared the 10th position with Sedo.
Both those companies had a long list of additional
sales worth noting. MedHotel.com ran up a $4,700 tab at
Pool where PenFriend.com attracted a $3,900 check and Wiesbaden.com
went for $3,825. Other Pool winners included
ClassAct.com at $3,600, BreastDoctor.com at $3,300
and a pair at $3,100: SheMail.com and BestDiet.com.
BestDiet sold on Pool's new MarketPlace, a special section of
the site that allows customers to post their own domains for sale. MailSearch.com
went for $2,050 on the Marketplace while o0.net
attracted $2,000. Pool had several others in the 2K range on
the traditional dropcatching side of the site. PDAAccessories.com
sold for $2,500, Consolidations.com went for $2,250
and NormaJean.com commanded $2,037.
At Sedo Bito.com added 4,000 ($4,895)
to the ledger while LadiesShop.com and LanguageTravel.com
contributed $3,888 each. Similar news came from other ports of
call. At Afternic, HomeCraft.com created a $4,300 paycheck,
ExecutiveCharter.com added $2,888 and WindowsSecrets.com
spilled the beans to the tune of $2,500. Moniker/DomainSystems
had a talented trio of their own with DanceSchool.com tapping
out $3,500, AxisInteractive.com adding $3,200 and
GetAgents.com going for $2,500.
We haven't heard much about .cn sales since the
China country code was introduced so it's worth noting the $500
sale of Payback.cn. We also got word that UnitedKingdom.com
changed hands the first half of May in a private transaction. No
details were announced but a domain like that could have easily gone
for six figures. The new owner is Digimedia. We understand the
seller was Canada's John Black, a domain pioneer who acquired
some remarkable .com properties before others even had an inkling of
how important they would eventually become.
In the Pipeline: Namewinner.com
caught the best .net we've seen in ages, Mobile.net, for a
customer who bid $18,120. The name hasn't changed hands yet so
the payment is still in transit, but it's hard to believe a buyer
would let this one slip away. At Enom's
Club Drop, an auction for Messanger.com ended at $5,500 on
Memorial Day. The high traffic misspell scores 552 in Overture with
the extension.
None of this week's sales were high enough to crack
the $25,000 entry barrier to our Year-To-Date chart
so it remains unchanged from last week. Here are the big

New TLD Section
For the third consecutive week, every domain on our New
TLD chart hit the four figure mark. As usual it was .info
leading the way. In fact .nfo, the first of the three new extensions
to be introduced (in Sept. 2001), scored another clean sweep, taking
all seven positions on the board. Vitamins.info led the way
after going for $9,500 at Afternic. We've known this one was
coming for more than two weeks but the escrow process was just
finished, finally making it official.
Sedo swept all of the remaining positions on the chart
with sale ranging from $1,000 to $3,673. Though .info
has shown special strength in Germany, six of the seven domains on
this week's list are English words. Homo.info claimed the
runner-up slot at $3,673 while the lone German word, Ventile.info
("Valves" in German) was next at $3,026.
Astronomy.info and RedLightDistrict.info
tied for 4th at $1,500 each (that's an odd pairing - we think
Binoculars.info would have been a much more appropriate match for the
Red Light domain ). Here
is a look at the complete Super 7 for the week ending May

Last week we had mentioned the results from the
auctions for RedLightDistrict.info and Counterfeit.info.
The sales became official this week when the payments were secured and
the domains transferred. At Afternic a couple of new extension
auctions just ended with Rat.biz going for $500 and SFP.us
for $495. At first glance I thought Rat.biz wasn't a very good
fit for the extension, but after getting some email about still
another round of registrar snafus I'm now thinking that in some cases
it's a perfect fit! Elsewhere we saw Passion.us go for $299
on Ebay and Sedo sold JVC.us for $280.
Our Year-To-Date New TLD chart gets one new
member this week. Vitamins.info swallowed the #6 position after that
big $9,500 sale. We are still able to title the chart as the Top 20
even though there are now 21 domains (due to a tied for the 20th
position). Here is a look at 2004's

As always, we welcome all verifiable sales reports from companies,
private sellers or individuals with knowledge of an important sale
made through any channel. To contribute information and help make
this column better, just drop a note to [email protected].
We truly appreciate the industry leading
companies represented on our charts who share their sales information
with us to help everyone in the business get a handle on current
domain values. Individuals like Richard
Meyer of the American Marketing Corporation also provide invaluable help by sending us data for these sales
reports each week.
Every Tuesday we publish the highest reported domain name
sales for the previous week. On Monday our contributors send us
their sales data for the previous 7 days. We then compile that
information and write this report for Tuesday publication to give
you the freshest sales report in the industry.
We will close with this standard caution. These are not average selling
prices - these are top selling domains. One of the
biggest impediments to making sales is pricing domains at
unrealistic levels. For most of us, pricing domains at the levels
achieved on the Top Ten chart will leave us waiting a long time to make a sale! We hope you will
use the information presented here as a measuring stick that will
help you price your domains at levels that will put more money in
your pocket more often!

Sales columns, they are available in our Archive.
