Domain King's Six-Figure Sale of PartnerCash.com Caps Sensational Week at Sedo

by Ron Jackson

Domain sales continue to be hotter than the summer sun in South Florida. Rick Schwartz (AKA The Domain King) knows all about both. Schwartz, who makes his home in Boca Raton, just bagged one of the year's 10 biggest reported domain sales, reeling in $110,000 for PartnerCash.com in a deal brokered by Sedo.com. Schwartz told us he originally acquired this domain as a new registration for $35 in 1998. Talk about return on investment!

Schwartz seldom sells domains unless a buyer is prepared to go over the 100K mark. In letting this one go, he helped Sedo sweep the top five spots on our new Top Ten weekly sales chart (and 6 of the first 7 positions). While Sedo was the dominant venue, a half-dozen different extensions shared the riches. Dreams.co.uk nailed down the number 2 slot at 25,000 ($43,504). That was followed by an exceptionally high .in (India's country code) sale - Mails.in at $24,000. .Com returned to the plate in the clean-up position and whacked #4 Pathology.com out of the park with a $22,000 blast. The biggest reported .info sale of the year, Best.info at 12,000 ($20,880) completed the top half of the chart. The new extensions had an excellent week overall, with every domain on our New TLD chart going for at least 4 figures.

Afternic.com finally halted Sedo's hot streak with Predators.com chewing up $18,900 to take the 6th seat at the banquet table. Sedo came right back with #7 BlindDates.de at 15,000 ($18,350). A pair of .coms and a .net provided the ballast for the Big Board. One of those was #8 Illusions.com which went for $18,300 at Moniker.com/DomainSystems.com. As hot as this week was, it could have been even hotter. Moniker CEO Monte Cahn told us they completed a pair of six-figure deals that could not be released due to non-disclosure agreements.

Even so, there were so many solid 5-figure sales this week that six of them fell short of the chart. We'll run all of those down for you, as well as dozens of other notable sales, but first let's take a look at the complete leader board for the week ending July 17:

8. Illusions.com $18,300 Moniker/

9. PittsburghPA.com $16,750 SnapNames
10. Synergy.net $16,255 SnapNames

Keep in mind that these are the highest value sales that have been reported to us in the past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both.

SnapNames.com anchored our new chart with PittsburghPA.com at $16,750 and Synergy.net at $16,255. Only $6 separated Moniker/DomainSystems from a second spot in the Top Ten. They sold RealBuzz.com for $16,250. Pool.com also had one of the week's 5-figure sales, notching $12,056 for CaliforniaRealEstate.net. Sedo wasn't content with just the half-dozen high dollar sales they placed on the Big Board. They rang up another 9,000 ($10,828) for Feel.de and 8,500 ($10,227) for Fotolibro.com ("photo book" in Spanish). SnapNames had the final can in our uncharted 5-figure six-pack, collecting $10,750 for CanadaBedAndBreakfast.com.

Just as they did last week, SnapNames again posted an exceptionally deep list of solid .com sales. FijiVacation.com went for $9,200, MetalSheds.com commanded $7,988 and SecurityLocks.com closed at $6,588. TheBoardroom.com banked $4,755, PicturesOfAnimals.com snapped $4,500, InvisibleInk.com erased $4,222 and CelticWeddingRing.com sold for $4,099. VideoCodec.com delivered $3,988, PicturesOfDogs.com fetched $3,950 and PicturesOfPeople.com added $3,850. EliteTorrents.com elicited $3,751, Cabelo.com called in $3,301 and CelebrationCity.com threw a $3,300 party.

Also at SnapNames, TropicalCruises.com docked with $3,095 onboard, TopComputers.com attracted $2,618 and ChicagoLuxuryApartments.com provided a new home for $2,450. OriginalArtwork.com was worth $2,405, DesktopPhoto.com clicked for $2,333 and ArtemisConsulting.com collected $2,315. PicturesOfBirds.com flew off with $2,300, Whimps.com whistled up $2,050 and TravelCases.com contained $2,048. Also among the winners were TVShowRatings.com ($2,038) and BridlePath.com ($2,005). In other extensions, Bravo.org drew a $1,250 round of applause and 9B.net knocked down $1,051.

Sedo's success did not end with all of those top dollar domains on the Big Board either. LinuxBasis.com brought 6,500 ($7,821) and a nice 2-letter .org,  MB.org grabbed 2,500 ($4,349). Repeat.de and Lieblingsorte.net deposited 3,500 ($4,211) apiece, Farming.nl (Netherlands country code) raised $3,000 and 2.am (country code for Armenia) broke curfew with $1,500. There were a couple of other sales involving similar small country codes. Wellness.ws (Samoa) went for 1,200 ($1,444) and Casinos.tv (Tuvalu) won 1,000 ($1,203). In addition, XXX.eu.com (a CentralNic subdomain) attracted $1,000.

Back at Pool side, ForumImages.com set the pace at $8,700, followed by WebcamConferencing.com ($6,541), Elfos.com ($6,000) and RetroTShirt.com ($4,588). RedLionHotels.com booked $4,544, BodyDetox.com cleaned out $4,161 and DrugCounselor.com dispensed $3,650. ColorPhotoPrinter.com produced $2,950, SouthernCaliforniaDentists.com pulled $2,750 and LasVegasCaterer.com laid out a $2,688 spread. Also from Sin City, LasVegasReceptions.com welcomed $2,650. Other notables from Pool.com included Abruzzo.net ($2,501), StoreSecurity.com ($2,338) and WritersBlog.com ($2,300). SouthPacificMap.com contributed $1,909, Tuberoussclerosis.com coughed up $1,900 and there was a trip of domains at $1,838 each; IncomeTaxEvasion.com, EconomicTheory.com and ColonCancerSigns.com

At Afternic, 26Films.com found $5,000, Reproduce.com returned $3,500 and RockBoat.com racked up $2,875. TheAList.com admitted $2,500 and SavannahMLS.com located $2,400 while CamBlog.com and AffiliateRegistry.com sold for $2,000 each.

New TLD Section

After six straight weeks in the #1 position on our New TLD chart, .biz was finally unseated by .info this week. No shame in that, as few new extension domains could have stood up to this blockbuster. Best.info went for 12,000 ($20,880) in the highest .info sale reported this year (and the second highest new extension sale, trailing only VOIP.us which sold for $25,000). Sedo handled this sale and accounted for five of our eight chart entries.

The runner-up slot went to .us after a superb city domain, Honolulu.us, changed hands in a $4,000 private transaction between seller Robert Connor and buyer Howard Hoffman (of PPCIncome.com). Both of these guys are very sharp new extension investors (and are two of the nicest people in the business, universally respected for their honesty and willingness to help fellow domainers).

.Biz may have been knocked off the throne this week but it still made a good showing with a pair of four-figure sales including #3 Start.biz at $2,750. None the less, this was .info's week. TheCasino.info piled it on with a $2,500 sale to complete the top half of the chart, followed closely by Dalmatians.info at $2,000. The latter domain was sold by Howard Hoffman, who as noted above, promptly plowed the proceeds back into his portfolio with the acquisition of Honolulu.us.

This may have been the strongest week of the year for new TLD sales as every domain on our chart hit at least four figures. Here's a look at the complete new extension leader board for the week ending July 17:

#6 Merrill.biz ($1,500) and #7 Viva.us ($1,000) were both my sales. In my own business, I've seen more interest in new TLD domains this month than ever before. I also sold NetNews.info ($500) and MyUSA.info ($390) this week and have another four-figure .biz currently in escrow at Sedo. With some exciting new developments in the pay per click business that are making it possible to earn parking revenue from good new extension keyword domains, I can only see demand continuing to escalate in this category.

Dale Porter of TheNameStore.com is another guy who has been very successful in the new TLD mines. He was the seller of Oink.info at Sedo (which tied Viva.us for the final chart position this week). Porter also sold Ocio.info for $500 and FirstImpressions.info for $200 at Sedo this week. Meanwhile, Menus.us went for $525 at Afternic.

Our New TLD Year-To-Date chart gets four new members this week with Best.info the clear leader of that quartet. Here are the Top 50 New TLD sales through July 17:

As always, we welcome all verifiable sales reports from companies, private sellers or individuals with knowledge of an important sale made through any channel. To contribute information and help make this column better,  just drop a note to [email protected].

We truly appreciate the industry leading companies represented on our charts who share their sales information with us to help everyone in the business get a handle on current domain values. Individuals like Richard Meyer of the American Marketing Corporation also provide invaluable help by sending us data for these sales reports each week.

Every Tuesday we publish the highest reported domain name sales for the previous week. On Monday our contributors send us their sales data for the previous 7 days. We then compile that information and write this report for Tuesday publication to give you the freshest sales report in the industry.

We will close with this standard caution. These are not average selling prices - these are top selling domains. One of the biggest impediments to making sales is pricing domains at unrealistic levels. For most of us, pricing domains at the levels achieved on the Top Ten chart will leave us waiting a long time to make a sale! We hope you will use the information presented here as a measuring stick that will help you price your domains at levels that will put more money in your pocket more often!
