FireAndIce.com Helps SnapNames Continue Hot Streak With 5 Cool Entries In DNJournal Top Ten

by Ron Jackson

Snapnames.com heads our Top Ten domain sales chart for the third week in a row after auctioning off FireAndIce.com for $21,500. That sale helped the popular dropcatcher dominate the Big Board by claiming half of the available positions. Two other powerhouses, Sedo.com and Enom's Club Drop notched a pair of big winners each with Afternic.com completing this week's elite list.

The big numbers we saw last week, when every one of the Top Ten domains hit at least five figures, were absent this week. Only two domains reached that level this time around but there was still a long list of solid four-figure sales. Sedo claimed the other five-figure sale with #2 Viscom.com going for 10,000 ($12,766). Sedo's second Top Ten entry was a German country code domain, Isostar.de, that came in #6 at 6,000 ($7,660).

SnapNames cemented their virtuoso performance with #3 PortableMP3Players.com at $8,866 and #4 AirplaneForSale.com at $8,703. Afternic completed the top half of the chart with the $8,500 sale of HyperDial.com. Enom's Club Drop entered the fray at lucky #7 with Moblogger.com commanding $7,507. They also had the 8th slot with Mature.net at $7,209

There are many more sales in that solid middle class neighborhood to tell you about, as well as a trio of four-figure sales on the New TLD chart (headed by .US this week), but first let's take a look at the complete Top Ten, for the week ending Sunday, Feb. 6:

8. Mature.net $7,209 Enom Club Drop
9. Broadbent.com     $6,100 SnapNames
10. StampStore.com $6,099 SnapNames

Keep in mind that these are the highest value sales that have been reported to us in the past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both.

SnapNames anchored the chart with the last two members of their starting five, #9 Broadbent.com ($6,100) and #10 StampStore.com ($6,099). Their impressive sales list also included StoryOfTheYear.com at $5,500, PortableMP3Player.com (the singular version of this week's #3 domain) at $4,440 and StreamSearch.com at $4,100. SwingWeight.com delivered another $4,099, followed by AdultPornSite.com at $4,010 and ClockRepair.com at $3,600. SnapNames also scored with .org and .net, with DataRecovery.org bringing in $2,051 and Brochures.net landing $1,111. In another auction PlasticCup.com went for $1,775 but if SnapNames keeps racking up wins like this, they may never have to drink from one!

At Moniker.com/DomainSystems.com, a matching com/net pair, Unisant.com and Unisant.net went for a total of $11,200. If the values had been broken out, the .com version likely would have been a Top Ten entry this week. Monte Cahn's crew also scored with LanguageSchools.com at $5,700. This would be a good spot to drop in a reminder about Monte's excellent radio program about domains heard every Wednesday night at 7pm U.S. Eastern Standard Time (2400 GMT) on WebmasterRadio.fm. Each week he interviews one or more industry leaders and listeners can log in to a live chat room during the show to pose their own questions for the guests.

Pool.com had some nice sales again this week, led by HollywoodVideos.com at $5,200, just a hair ahead of Handshake.com at $5,000. XBE.com brought in another $3,050 with ItDoor.com a grand behind at $2,050. SexBracelet.com added $1,555 and Gratuit.net chipped in with $1,375. Pool is located in Canada and local customers are starting to use the company's services to go after .ca (Canadian country code) drops. Loveshack.ca went for $252, Contribute.ca for $214 and Vicodin.ca for $200

Of course, when it comes to presenting a show stopping variety act, Sedo owns the stage. This week they scored with coms, nets, orgs and their usual wide range of country codes. Bodybuilding.net beefed up the Sedo list with $4,750, VOIPProvider.com called in $4,500 and the two-letter UI.org added 2,000 ($3,707). Their ccTLD sales included Profil.de at 3,000 ($3,830) and DVDImport.fr (French country code domain) at 2,500 ($3,190). They also led our New TLD chart with a .US domain. We'll have more on that in our new extension section below. Sedo's other .com winners included Lexbox.com at $3,500 and a pair at 2,000 ($2,552); AffiliateView.com and VideoRingtones.com

Afternic supplemented their Top Ten entry with 2Z.com ($4,999), Ahhi.com ($4,056), SCB.com ($2,750) and SameDayFlyers.com ($2,500). Enom Club Drop's extras included ForexSignals.com at $3,507 and MichaelVick.com at $2,308. Elsewhere, PKD.com went for $5,101 on Ebay and E1 Internet sold IDB.org for $4,500. Coffee connoisseur Ben Kirshner of CoffeeForLess.com parted with VeryBestCoffee.com for $2,500. It was picked up by a private coffee house chain in L.A.'s San Fernando Valley that is expanding from one to five locations. On the minor country code front, SexSearch.ws went for $400 in a private sale.

New TLD Section

This week's New TLD list features three four-figure sales, one each from .US, .Info and .Biz. The American country code led the pack this week with Musicals.us selling for $3,255 at Sedo. Buero.info ("office" in German) took the second slot at $1,914, also selling at Sedo, a venue that racked up 6 of this week's 8 chart entries. The other two went in private sales, including #3 Adams.biz, a domain I sent to Adams Management Services of Amsterdam, Holland for $1,000.

Sedo placed a nice matching set of .infos in a tie for the 4th position at $638. Those were Damenmode.info ("women's fashion" in German) and Herrenmode.info ("men's fashion" in German). .Biz, .Info and .US then alternated positions to fill out the chart.  Here's a look at the complete new extension list for the week ending Feb. 6:

Our Year-To-Date New TLD best sellers list gets three new entries this week, one from each of the three extensions we track. Musicals.us enters at #6, Buero.info comes in at #14 and Adams.biz joins a logjam at $1,000. Our chart currently lists all reported new extension sales from $1,000 up. .Info and .Biz continue a real horse race with .info barely ahead 11-10 in the race for most four-figure sales. .US is trailing in quantity but the ccTLD continues to hold the biggest new extension sale of the year, CellPhones.us.  Here is how they stand after 5 weeks:

As always, we welcome all verifiable sales reports from companies, private sellers or individuals with knowledge of an important sale made through any channel. To contribute information and help make this column better,  just drop a note to [email protected].

We truly appreciate the industry leading companies represented on our charts who share their sales information with us to help everyone in the business get a handle on current domain values. Individuals like Richard Meyer of the American Marketing Corporation also provide invaluable help by sending us data for these sales reports each week.

Every Tuesday we publish the highest reported domain name sales for the previous week. On Monday our contributors send us their sales data for the previous 7 days. We then compile that information and write this report for Tuesday publication to give you the freshest sales report in the industry.

We will close with this standard caution. These are not average selling prices - these are top selling domains. One of the biggest impediments to making sales is pricing domains at unrealistic levels. For most of us, pricing domains at the levels achieved on the Top Ten chart will leave us waiting a long time to make a sale! We hope you will use the information presented here as a measuring stick that will help you price your domains at levels that will put more money in your pocket more often!
