6-Figure .Com Tops New Sales Chart - Dozens of Flippa Sales Surface - Andrew Rosener Ecstatic Over X.com Sale

Summer weeks are often slow ones for domain aftermarket news. Vacations, travel and just spending more time outdoors enjoying the weather tend to take precedence - but the week just passed was having none of that! In addition to receiving news of yet another super-sized  3-letter .com sale, we got a list from Flippa treating us to all of their top previously unreleased 2017 domain sales and - though the price was undisclosed - we saw one of the most valuable names on the Internet change hands with a well-known figure from our industry in the middle of a landmark 1-letter .com sale to one of America's most celebrated entrepreneurs.

As has happened so many times in the past, the top spot on our latest weekly all extension Top 20 Sales Chart went to a 3-letter .com. This time it was DCC.com doing the honors as that domain went for $198,000 in a private transaction that also ranks among the 20 biggest sales reported so far this year

The runner-up spot on the Big Board went to YesNames.com's $62,000 sale of Strahovka.com made on the Efty.com platform. The seller told us "strahovka" is a Russian word that is synonymous with "insurance" in that language.

By Ron Jackson

Flippa swept the next four spots on the Big Board (and 12 of 21 places overall) after releasing all of their sales for the first half of 2017 at once. They rounded out the first five on the elite list with Hours.com ($31,000), OVR.com ($30,000) and PetShops.com ($25,001). Flippa also accounted for the only two non .com sales on the leader board - #15 (tie) Print.net at $15,000 and #20 (tie) Gem.org at $12,500.

The .coms swept everything else with help from DomainMarket.com (where #7 GeorgiaBride.com went for $24,888 and #20 (tie) CashForSchools.com brought $12,500), Blue String Ventures (who sold #10 WaterBus.com for $20,000) and Sedo (who claimed four chart entries with a quartet led by #12 AcaiBerry.com at $18,000).

While a lot of impressive sales were reported this week, the single most impressive one is one we can't chart as the price paid was subject to a non-disclosure agreement. However, the sale of X.com to Tesla and SpaceX Founder Elon Musk has to be noted because it was news not just in our industry but in the mainstream and business media around the world. Elliot Silver at DomainInvesting.com had the first comprehensive report I saw on the transaction Monday (July 10).

Musk, who was the original owner of the domain, undoubtedly spent multiple millions to re-acquire it from PayPal. It is one of only three 1-letter .coms that have ever been released (along with Q.com and Z.com). One of the many cool aspects of this deal is that one of our industry's most widely-known brokers, Andrew Rosener of MediaOptions.com, was called on to find the right buyer and broker the deal. Andrew told me, "It is a historical moment and by far the pinnacle of my domaining career." Our congratulations to him and to Elon for bringing "his baby" back home.

Keep in mind that these are the highest value cash only sales that have been reported to us in the past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both. Country Codes

While the ccTLDs had no entries on the all extension Top 20 Chart that didn't mean they had a bad week. In fact it was quite solid, led the five-figures sale of Sho.es ($11,000). Flippa also took the next two spots on our latest weekly Country Code Top 20 Sales Chart. #2 WWE.io at $8,000 and #3 Ur.ly at $7,349

Sedo completed the first five with Kredietadvies.be at $5,985 and Rijk.nl at $5,130. Sedo went on to pile up eight chart entries overall. Flippa who, as I noted earlier, released all of their qualifying 2017 sales to date at once, swept all but one of the remaining 12 places. The lone exception was Aftermarket.pl's $4,050 sale of #8 Ameryka.pl (a name they sold for DomainInvest.lu).

.IO easily won the extension race with five charted sales. The only other TLDs with more than one were Spain's .es and Germany's .de with two apiece. Here is how the country code leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, July 9, 2017:

Non .com gTLDs (.net, .org and others, including new gTLDs)

The Non .com gTLDs were led by the two five-figure sales you saw in the all extension section at the top of this report: Print.net ($15,000) and Gem.org ($12,500). They went on to pile up 10 of the 20 entries on our latest weekly Non .Com gTLD Top 20 Sales Chart, including #4 BoxOffice.net at $8,100.

Name.com collected $8,760 for #3 Holiday.club. That was one of seven .club domains on the elite list, a result of the .CLUB Registry releasing all of their 2Q-2017 premium domain sales this week. Most of those sales were made through their registrar partners (like Name.com).

The .club contingent included three others that landed on the top half of the leader board - #5 CPA.club ($8,000 at GoDaddy), #6 Mobile.club ($7,849 at Gandi SAS) and #9 Touzi.club ($7,288 at Alibaba).
